"The Bingsu Kumiho" Final Pattern Creation Process

Initial Photo of Peach
Added to photoshop
Line art created
Creation of Portia J. Alight Logo for Alight Couture Brand (the new business I am starting up) using Wacom Tablet from initial paper sketch
Line type and weight variations with signature added
Creation of Kumiho (nine tailed fox) motifs for my children's bedroom pattern later named "The Bingsu Kumiho". This was again initially drawn as a sketch in my sketchbook based on photos of baby foxes and also from my imagination (as nine tailed foxes are mythical creatures).
Different variation of eyes.
Starting to fill in the first colourway "Serene Peach".
Final Motif art for The Bingsu Kumiho "Serene Peach"
Starting to create layout and multiple artboards for final submission
Creation of pattern and swatch for repeating pattern, played with pattern repetition width, height, as well as grid, column, bricked, etc.
Creating colourway 2 "Vibrant Persimmon" Split Complementary
Again creating pattern swatch and playing with spaces between repeats.
Experimentation of non-directional design. Took a lot of trail and error to get the spacing aesthetically pleasing as well as create interest with the different orientations of my motifs.
Played with scale of the pattern motifs within the swatch as well. You can see the difference in scale from the first to repeating pattern swatches and the non-directional pattern swatch.
Adding in the logo I created for my new company (that is actually selling silk scarves using non-directional layouts of my hand drawn fashion illustrations). Recolouring of logo to match with pattern design.
Final Logo oriented at corner to take into account non-directional characteristic of the pattern.
Final pages of Colour and Repeat Submission
The right page shares a bit about why I created the pattern and my personal ties to the motifs. Truly "The Bingsu Kumiho" is a sweet pattern made to bring good luck and blessings to your little ones bedroom.
